Sacred Power Corporation

SacredPowerjpegSacred Power Corporation, a Native American-owned firm based in Albuquerque, New Mexico that manufactures and deploys patented remote solar power systems, energy efficient telecommunication shelters, and grid-tied photovoltaic carports. Founded in 2001, the firm’s primary customers are state, federal, and tribal government agencies.

In conjunction with a USDA program for Rural Electrification, Sacred Power Corporation has installed over 600 PV/Wind hybrid power systems for remote Native American homes that otherwise would not have power or refrigeration.  The company provides a clean renewable energy system to individual homes, preventing the need for costly and unsightly utility power lines across pristine desert landscapes. The firm has a number of innovative school installations which have seen a 30%-80% reduction in electricity costs as a result; one example is Portales, the first K-12 school in New Mexico to have a wind turbine. Sacred Power provides energy efficiency awareness as well as presentations on green job opportunities to students.

Sacred Power’s 57 full time employees include members of the Navajo, Pueblo, Sioux, and Ojibwe tribes. Employees enjoy strong benefits, a 401(k) plan, training, and opportunities to advance.  Sacred Power targets tribal populations and encourages entry level applicants; the firm has worked with Jobs Corps and the National Indian Youth Council.  Company principals, including CEO David Melton, are active in a number of Native American and renewable energy associations such as the New Mexico Solar Energy Association.
