Power Partners, Inc.

ppi-largePower Partners, based in Athens, Georgia. Power Partners, which manufacture pole-type distribution transformers, solar water heaters, and adsorption chillers, is a green innovator in a traditional industry. Purchased in a turnaround situation in 2003, the company has reshaped its factory and work culture while maintaining the highest level of customer service. One of Power Partner’s proudest achievements is the ability to manufacture transformers in less than two days in an industry where typical lead times are 6-10 weeks. This allows a quick response to all customers, particularly those in emergency situations such as hurricane recovery.

Power Partners formed a Green Team in 2008 to reduce the firm’s carbon footprint, achieve zero landfill waste, and educate employees on environmentally-friendly practices. As a result, the firm achieved ISO 14001 certification in 2009.  Among many other green community initiatives, Power Partners is an award-winning member of the Georgia Recycling Coalition, providing space for recycling bins on site for use by employees that do not have recycling pick up at home as well as the general community.

Power Partners’ 360 employees enjoy a full medical package, 401(k), tuition reimbursement, an Employee Assistance Program, onsite gym and wellness programs, an on-site cafeteria, and a community garden. Employees participate in a variety of training programs, including Pay-for-Skills, Training Within Industry, the Lean Apprentice Development Program, and Facilitator Skills. In addition, the Powering Up Lean Leadership program was established to grow the middle and senior level leadership, and all employees are offered cross training.
